STORY BEHIND THE SOLLONI

This month, discover the Story Behind the Solloni as Jessica Fligger shares the inspiration behind her Solloni Deluxe III model, our featured Design Spotlight accordion of the month.
BACKGROUND
I'm originally from Detroit, Michigan, but currently based in Ann Arbor, where I'm finishing my senior year at the University of Michigan.
ACCOLADES
Most of the time, I play accordion for my friends and family, but every summer since 2025 I've had the opportunity to perform with Stas Venglevski's Houston Accordion Orchestra. It's been an absolute blast! One of the highlights was traveling with the Houston Accordion Orchestra to Japan for a two-week performance tour -- an unforgettable experience that I'll always treasure.
DESIGN INSPIRATION & MEANING
The design of my Solloni accordion was heavily influenced by advice from my teacher, Yakov, particularly when it came to choosing the reed combinations and arranging them for easy access across the keyboard. Aesthetically, I fell in love with the wood-grain paint finish on several Solloni accordions I had seen and knew I wanted something similar for my own instrument. Every time I perform, people compliment how unique it looks! As a design student, I'm naturally drawn to beautiful materials like wood, and I love the contrast between the warmth of the organic wood-grain paint and the incredible precision of such a highly engineered instrument.
COLLABORATION & FINAL THOUGHTS
I absolutely love my Solloni accordion! It genuinely makes me want to practice -- even on the days when I don't feel like it -- which I think is one of the highest compliments I can give an instrument. Working with Kevin at Carnegie Accordion Company has also been an amazing experience. From the very beginning, I felt like my voice as a performer was heard and valued, and I truly feel that my Solloni accordion is the perfect instrument for me.
Jessica plays a Solloni Deluxe III, a ladies'-size, non-chambered, 3/5 reed accordion that features handmade reeds in a LMM configuration. This model is superseded by the Solloni Deluxe I model.
